Mercedes
Mercedes Profile
Mercedes are the reigning Formula 1 Constructors’ champions having enjoyed an unprecedented level of dominance in the sport since 2014.
The Brackley-based outfit can actually trace its roots back to 1970 and the Tyrrell team which was formed by Ken Tyrrell.
In the late-90s they were bought by British American Tobacco to form BAR (British American Racing) and competed under that guise between 1999 and 2005, though they used a lot of new facilities and equipment compared to the Tyrell team that they’d just acquired.
For 2006, they became Honda and were powered by the Japanese automotive giants before they pulled out at the end of 2008, paving the way for the great Brawn GP story, powered by Mercedes and ran by Ross Brawn, which saw Jenson Button take the Drivers’ title in 2009.
In 2010, the works Mercedes name returned to the sport and their first win as the Silver Arrows came in 2012 with Nico Rosberg.
Come 2014 and the new turbo-hybrid era, Merc found themselves out in front and they’ve won every title since.
