Everton Profile

Everton has established themselves as a consistent, Premier League outfit capable of regularly challenging for European football. Nicknamed ‘The Toffees’ and founded in 1878, Everton share a close, bitter rivalry with their noisy neighbours Liverpool; they may have struggled to compete with the Reds in recent years but the blue half of Merseyside certainly has some history attached to it.

Everton, who play their home matches at Goodison Park, last won a major trophy in 1995, beating Manchester United in the FA Cup Final. The Toffees will be hoping to end that long period without silverware sooner rather than later; the club is acquiring some very talented players and the competitive nature is certainly in their DNA.

Overall throughout the history of the club, Everton has won the First Division title nine times; however, they are yet to win the division since it changed to the Premier League. The Toffees are also five-time FA Cup winners – the first dating back as early as 1905 – and the Everton fans will be hoping to add to that in the near future. As for the League Cup, Everton have finished runners-up twice but are yet to lift the trophy.

On top of nine FA Charity Shields, Everton have also experienced some success in European competitions. In the 1984/85 campaign, the Toffees won the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

Everton fans have been treated to some outstanding talent over the years and many went on to become club legends; the likes of Neville Southall, Brian Labone and the more modern Leighton Baines were all fantastic servants for the Toffees. If they are to endure more success as a club in such a competitive Premier League, the investment and recruitment needs to be correct, which is not always easy to do.
