Fortnite: First ever trans superhero set to be added to the game

Fortnite

Fortnite has taken a huge step forward in terms of inclusivity by adding the first ever trans character to the game.

The v21.50 update has gone live on consoles, Windows PCs, and Cloud Gaming, and there have been a number of map changes to go with it, while also bringing with it a new character by the name of Dreamer.

She comes from the CW’s Supergirl series, which came to the end of its run in 2021.

Dreamer’s biography from the Arrow fandom website explains her backstory and it has been confirmed that she is a trans superhero.

Born physically a boy, she realised that she was a girl early in her life, and she was offered love and support by her family.

She also faced struggles and intolerance as she grew up, and developed a desire to help and protect others who were faced with intolerance and hate.

She eventually embraced her powers and became a sidekick to Supergirl on the show, and she is the first transgender superhero to appear on television.

And she has now been added to Fortnite, it would appear, offering players the chance to use her in the Battle Royale.

Inclusivity in Gaming

It is a huge step forward for inclusivity in gaming, with more representation surely only a good thing.

Dreamer, whose real name in the show is Nia Nal, was originally created for the TV show and was then added to comics and other media, in an inversion of usual tropes.

HypeX has revealed the cosmetics and edit styles coming to Fortnite and she is included amongst them.

Her description reads: “Nia Nal sees the future through dreams and protects the world from nightmarish threats. Part of the Dreamer set.”

It isn’t quite clear what else is coming in the Dreamer set but that is likely to be revealed in the coming days, as HypeX’s tweet does not show any more items from the set.

Also coming to the game are characters by the names of Commander Zavala, Ikora Rey, Exo Stranger, Mazy and Veronika.

There are also a clutch of new emotes coming, along with fresh weaponry and edit styles.

We’ll bring you a further update when Fortnite drops their next update.
