Boxing promoter Frank Warren has branded Mike Tyson a “terrible manipulative bully” – and is amazed everybody is fooled by his Mr Nice Guy persona.

The Queensberry Promotions boss helped ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ get his career back on track with a couple of fights in the UK at the turn of the century.

But Warren insists that Tyson still has a real mean streak despite his growing popularity in recent years.

And he claimed he acts like a completely different person behind the scenes.

Warren told The Guardian: “He is a terrible manipulative bully.

“Every fighter that’s beaten him, he couldn’t intimidate. Every one who he’s beaten, he could intimidate. If he can’t intimidate you, that’s a killer for him.

“He is a compelling character, and he’s one of those fellas who gets you to feel that he’s misunderstood but, when you get into it, he is what he is, which is a thug and a bully and a misogynist. He’s very homophobic when he’s cursing somebody or he’s shouting at them.

“He was an unbelievably exciting fighter – menacing, devastating – but that lasted a very short time, and then he just p****d his career away.

“He didn’t live the life he should have led. You could sit with him right now and you’d think this guy’s totally been misunderstood, he’s a good bloke.

“I’m telling you, he’s very manipulative.”

It’s not the first time Warren has spoken negatively about Tyson, 56, after he revealed a £2million bill led to him punching him in the face.

Speaking on Andy Coulson’s ‘Crisis What Crisis?’ podcast, he said: “First time he came over, no problems, he was great.

“And then he went into a jewellers and walked out with an invoice for, I can’t remember the exact amount, £1.5m, £2m something like that.

“They never paid the bill and the jewellers, quite rightly, wanted to get paid and they kept ringing me.

“And I was ringing the States. They’re telling me, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to do another fight here let’s pay it out of that’.

“When he came back the second time he was just awful. Beyond awful.

“He was petulant, aggressive, totally different scenario.

“The bill hadn’t been paid still and he’d gone into the jewellers – because there was a girl in there that he had met and he was basically showing off to her.

“And to cut a long story short, he got p****d about it.

“I get a call. Someone tells me, ‘Mike’s not happy’.

“I go up to the hotel. Next minute, you stand there talking and he’s taken a swing at me. He actually caught me. There’s a lot of commotion. I didn’t expect it.

“It was a cheap shot. I got up and it’s pandemonium, madness in the room.

“When I say it’s my fault, I should have known. I should have pulled out of that situation from the start.”
