Everton could make 'statement signing' in £30m star at Goodison Park

Everton boss Frank Lampard acknowledges the fans

Everton could still make a statement signing in Armando Broja, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Frank Lampard secured the services of Neal Maupay last week, but the Toffees manager is believed to still be in the market for another striker.

What’s the latest news involving Broja?

Broja was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s victory over Leicester on Sunday following his return from injury, but his Stamford Bridge future remains uncertain heading into the final days of the window.

According to talkSPORT, Everton have ‘asked’ to include one of Broja or Conor Gallagher as part of a deal which would see Anthony Gordon in the opposite direction.

Everton have held an interest in the young striker all summer, who’s also attracted attention from West Ham, who were previously plotting a £30m bid.

Lampard handed Broja his Premier League debut and spoke highly of him prior to Everton’s game at Southampton earlier this year.

“He’s a very good lad, very talented young boy,” he said. “He’s fast, strong, has a real eye for a goal. He’s a very good young player, so I’m very aware of his strengths.”

Did Dominic Calvert-Lewin score on his Premier League debut for Everton?

But Phillips reckons that Broja leaving Stamford Bridge could hinge on whether Chelsea manage to sign a striker themselves before the window closes.

What did Phillips say about Broja?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “At the moment, there’s nothing to suggest that Chelsea will allow that, it’s obviously dependent on other situations.

“If Chelsea sign another striker, Broja could see his path blocked, if [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang comes in and Kai Havertz is already ahead of him, so that could still happen, that could be one of Lampard’s statement signings.

“I think they will be looking to make statement signings up top and in midfield.”

Are Everton linked with any other strikers?

Despite securing Maupay’s services, Everton remain in the market for another frontman, with Richarlison gone and Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured.

The Toffees have been admirers of Southampton man Che Adams for several weeks, although his recent goalscoring spree is unlikely to see Saints offload him.

Football Insider recently claimed that Ollie Watkins was also on Everton’s radar following a fall-out with Steven Gerrard, while Broja’s Chelsea teammate Michy Batshuayi is another player of interest to Lampard having previously worked alongside him in west London.
