Jurgen Klopp has overseen a dismal start to the Premier League season, with just two points on the board after three games, but still has time to strengthen ahead of the September 1 deadline.
What is the latest transfer news from Liverpool?
According to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg, Keita is unhappy with his current contract situation on Merseyside.
The reporter claims that talks over a new deal have been shelved and that there is now a chance he would leave before the deadline.
The Reds were linked with Sporting star Matheus Nunes but the Portuguese has since joined Wolves.
What has Sheth said on Liverpool’s midfield?
Sheth understands the former Birmingham City star remains the club’s long-term top target.
He adds that it is unlikely that Klopp would consider allowing an unhappy Keita to leave this summer unless a replacement was lined up.
Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “A lot of people are saying ‘look, regardless of Keita’s situation, Liverpool need to strengthen that midfield area’. Thiago’s injured and there are a couple of other issues in that midfield, it’s either very old or very young.
“With Thiago injured, there’s a bit of a hole in that midfield for Liverpool and I just wonder whether Jurgen Klopp would even consider allowing Keita to leave given the situation there unless there is something happening in the background whereby Liverpool have got someone else who can come straight in. Their long-term target is Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.”
What have Liverpool been up to this summer?
Last season’s Champions League finalists may not have been the busiest of clubs in the transfer window but over £70 million has still been splashed on three new arrivals.
Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay all made the move to Anfield to bolster Klopp’s first team.
With the current injury problems, it will be interesting to see if they make any more moves before the deadline next month.
