Anthony Joshua beaten by Usyk: Brit broke down at emotional press-conference

Anthony Joshua press conference

Anthony Joshua broke down in emotional press conference following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

In last night’s rematch, Joshua was unable to reclaim the heavyweight throne against Usyk.

Usyk proved why he is the world’s best with a sensational performance over the Englishman.

With that being said, Joshua looked a lot sharper compared to the first fight. Throughout the fight, Joshua found some success every time he went to the body.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to earn himself the win. The official decision proved to be controversial as judge Glenn Feldman scored the fight in ‘AJ’s’ favour.

Following the fight, in the press conference, Joshua was unable to hold back the tears after his impressive performance ended in defeat.

“I don’t feel anything,” Joshua said before adding: “I’m upset deep down in my heart.”

The Englishman’s post-fight rant seemed to have confused a lot of the boxing fans as well.

“Usyk is one hell of a f***ing fighter, let’s give him a round of applause,” Joshua said. “Sorry guys, look, if you knew my story you’d understand the passion.

“I ain’t no amateur boxer from youth, I was looking at jail. I’m stealing this Usyk, I’m sorry but it’s because of the f***ing passion.

“I’m not a 12-round fighter, I’m a new breed of heavyweight, Mike Tyson, Sonny Liston – they say ‘he doesn’t throw combinations like Rocky Marciano,’ because I’m not f***ing 14-stone.”

Many felt as if Joshua was concussed following his post-fight interview that was ‘out of character’ by the Englishman.

Reacting to his post fight interview at the press conference, Joshua said: “I was mad at myself. Not at anyone, just at myself. So I thought I’ve got to get out of here because I’m mad. Like anyone when you’re angry, you might do stupid things.

“Then I realised, this is sport. Let me do the right thing.

“Then I just spoke from my heart. It’s been so tough. You see AJ holding it together and I’m a hustler so I try and hold things together and I try and work hard, put things together, make sure my team’s good. But it comes at a cost, a big cost. It’ll never break me, but it takes real strength for it not to break you.

“There’s a little crack in that armour. Because I took a loss and I think you just saw me upset.

“I’m a fighter,” he added, “I’m not a normal person, even though I try to hold it together. I was just in war mode.”

Despite the defeat, it’s fair to say that Joshua still has a lot of options going forward.
