The unofficial debate over whether Manchester City’s Erling Haaland or Darwin Nunez of Liverpool is the better Premier League signing continues.
Both teams lost some crucial players during the transfer window, with Sadio Mané leaving Anfield for Bayern Munich, and City parting ways with Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling.
Haaland and Nunez are enjoying their debut seasons in England’s top flight and even though we are only one game week in, fans are already pitting them against each other.
England’s most capped international and BBC Sport pundit Fara Williams gave her thoughts on the hotly debated topic.
“I think Haaland is the better business for City. Absolute bargain, it’s a steal,” she said. “But I actually think in the players that City have let go, Liverpool are in a better position this year than what City are.
“Losing Jesus, Sterling — these are big players, and players that have been consistently doing well at Manchester City. So that’s why I think, that in talking about the strikers, Haaland is by far the better striker and the better deal.
“But when you talk about fitting straight into a team and not having to adapt much, Liverpool have done the better business.”

Erling Haaland vs Darwin Nunez
Add-ons and agent fees estimate he cost City a total of £85.5m.
Snapping up a highly sought after striker who tallied 86 goals and 23 assists in 89 games for Dortmund is certainly good business for a title-challenging team who were forced to adapt to life without legendary goalscorer Sergio Aguero.
Nunez has also been a smart signing for Liverpool. His eye-watering price tag of £85 million may be a new record for the Merseyside outfit, but he has hit the ground running with his new side.
Williams tipped Nunez to be the better signing in terms of slotting into a team right away. The Uruguayan has certainly impressed so far after scoring in the Reds’ Community Shield win over Man City and bagging himself a goal and an assist on his Premier League debut vs Fulham.
However, Haaland’s debut has shown he has also immediately gelled with his new side.
While his Community Shield performance was rather quiet, he more than made up for it by netting both goals in City’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
Williams’ comments came before Haaland’s brace against the Irons and she has since responded to her original comments.
“2-1 @ErlingHaaland,” she wrote on Twitter with a laughing emoji. “Can’t wait to watch these two strikers this season in the Premier League!”
Last season, Liverpool fell agonisingly short of clinching a second Premier League title after Man City pipped them to the post. With both sides having strengthened during the transfer window, who will come out on top this time?
