The UFC is known for some spectacular knockouts, but what is the fastest KO in the history of the company?
There have been a number of extremely quick finishes inside the octagon, but the fastest ever was certainly a sight to behold.
It’s not often that we see the first hit of a contest completely finish the fight, but when it does happen it usually becomes a major moment in MMA history.
Here’s everything you need to know about the fastest knockout in the history of the UFC, where it occurred and who scored the victory.
UFC Fastest Knockout
Masvidal was able to finish Askren in just 5 seconds, with an unbelievable flying knee that took out the wrestling specialist in an unbelievably quick fashion.
Askren appeared to be going straight in for a double leg takedown right at the opening bell, but Masvidal had already decided to run headlong into the oncoming fighter with a brutal knee that ended the fight quicker than any other in company history.
The now-iconic finish has come to be the biggest moment of Masvidal’s career thus far and will be part of highlight packages for years to come.
Masvidal is set to face Colby Covington on Saturday 5th March 2022 in the main event of UFC 272. The former friends turned bitter rivals will be looking to make a statement and cement their positions in the Welterweight division.
It’s arguable that Askren never truly recovered from the quick finish, with the former ONE Championship great losing to Demain Maia a few months after in October 2019.
Askren’s last notable move in combat sports was his loss to Jake Paul, which was a major PPV boxing event for Triller.
