Amir Khan vs Kell Brook: Natasha Jonas reveals mindset plan ahead of title fight

Natasha Jonas is preparing for one of the biggest fights of her career as she eyes up the vacant WBO super-welterweight title.

This will be the Brit’s third attempt at securing a world title in a brand new weight division and she is leaving no stone unturned in her training.

Jonas will take on Christian Namús on Saturday night on the Amir Khan vs Kell Brook undercard.

The Liverpool-born fighter has jumped three weight classes to take on Namús this weekend and has revealed how she is keeping herself disciplined ahead of what could be a huge moment for her.

“I have to be smart, I have to be fast, and do everything that I’ve done in the gym for the past 10 weeks,” she told Sky Sports after her weigh in.

Jonas then admitted she has removed herself from social media in order to avoid distractions in the lead up to the title fight.

“You can easily get side-tracked and listen to people’s hype and I’m just not about that.

“I’m focused on one job, I’ve looked beyond opponents before and that hasn’t worked out for me so I’ll just stick to the job at hand and keep my head down.”

Jonas has fought in two scintillating title fights before now, coming up against Terri Harper and Katie Taylor.

The Liverpudlian held Harper to a draw before falling agonisingly short to undisputed lightweight champion Taylor.

Jonas hasn’t stepped into the ring since losing out to The Bray Bomber back in May 2021. She has had a good amount of time to get in the right headspace and cater her training to face Namús on Saturday night.

The Uruguayan fighter has won 25 of her 32 professional career bouts and was last in action in October 2020. Namús took on Ema Kozin for the WIBA, WBF female and vacant WBC interim female middleweight titles but lost out via unanimous decision.

Both women will be looking to bounce back from previous losses and steer their form on track once again. The event is scheduled to get underway at 18.00 GMT on Saturday, February 19th. The fights will be taking place at the AO Arena in Manchester.
